Inclement Weather Guidelines

Student safety is our district’s highest priority when inclement weather forces a late start, early dismissal, or school closure.

What follows is a brief summary of our considerations and communications when winter weather impacts our area:

  • Local forecasts from the National Weather Service and first-hand observations will be the primary sources for all inclement weather decisions.
  • Air temperatures colder than -25°, wind chills colder than -40°, moderate to heavy snowfall, or icy roadways will typically impact the school day and after-school activities.
  • All notifications will originate from the instant messaging system embedded in our Infinite Campus software – please keep your preferred contact information current.
  • When possible, weather-related notifications will be delivered no later than 8:00 p.m. the preceding evening.
  • Same day notifications will be delivered no earlier than 6:00 a.m. and then as soon as practical throughout the day.
  • Notifications pertaining to after school activities and community education programs will be delivered no later than 1:00 p.m.
  • Knights Kids will open at 7:00 a.m. when school starts late and will close at 5:00 p.m. when school dismisses early.

Ultimately, the final decision on a student’s attendance in questionable weather rests with the parent/guardian. Contact with the school attendance office is appreciated if you choose to keep your child home in such a situation.
