Weather Guidelines

Kenyon- Wanamingo Winter Weather Plan

Our highest priority is the safety of our students, staff, and visitors. It is important to remember that parents and guardians are the final decision makers regarding their child’s safety. Please contact the school attendance office if you choose to keep your child home due to unsafe weather or driving conditions.

School delay, closing, and early dismissal decisions will be communicated through our Infinite Campus instant messaging system. Please keep your preferred contacts updated. Information will also be shared at WCCO TV/radio and KDHL radio AM 920. The district will conduct Distance Learning Days on the cancellation date in lieu of make-up school days. Attendance will be taken in the form of assignment completion. Assignments will be posted on each teacher’s web page or Google Classroom site (7-12).

Kenyon-Wanamingo students attending school at River Bluff Education Center will always follow the calendar and schedule of the Red Wing Public School District. http://www.gced.k12.mn.us/

Our sources of information are generated from first hand observations about local weather and road conditions as well as the forecast from the National Weather Service. http://www.weather.gov/

Cold Temperatures / Wind Chill /Snow or other Weather Factors
• Determinations are based on a forecast for the starting time of bus routes of an air temperature less than minus 25 degrees Fahrenheit or a wind chill in excess of minus 40 degrees Fahrenheit or of a high probability that travel conditions will be unsafe or routes will be impassable.

• School delay and closing decisions based on temperature will usually be made the preceding evening.

• The final, same day decision on road conditions will usually be made between 4:30 and 5:30 a.m. based on first hand observations.

• Early Childhood programs will follow the decision made for regular classes.

• Knights Kids will open at 7:00 a.m. whenever the regular school day has a weather delay and close at 5:00 p.m. on early dismissal dates.

• School activities and community education programs will continue as scheduled unless specifically noted in the delay or closing announcement.
