Welcome to the revised website for the Kenyon-Wanamingo Public Schools. Our school board has been investing resources into updating our logo and branding message. We hope that this improved site will serve as an effective internal resource for our school community. It is also intended to conveniently assist external audiences that need to locate information about the district. Regardless of the reason you are viewing this site, we’re glad you’re here!
I initially accepted the K-W superintendent role in 2015. Now, I’m very excited to be a part of the leadership team that is guiding our district toward its future. It didn’t take me long to identify the core strength of this organization and why I should stay. It is the people that make K-W great! From the kids and their families to the staff and supportive community members, the people want to see a thriving rural school system here. The banner of this letter features our official program logos. The Little Knights represent our pre-kindergarten programs. The Knights in Training symbolizes the positive culture and skills that develop during the kindergarten through 4th grade experience. Finally, the new bold Knight logo encompasses a unified attitude of high and honorable expectations for our students in grades 7-12. Each developmental stage is considered a program of equal value within our system.
Four Star early childhood programs and childcare are available at both the Kenyon and Wanamingo sites. Our updated elementary school is one of the landmarks of Wanamingo. It is nestled into a residential neighborhood alongside one of the best baseball/softball complexes that you will find in Minnesota. The middle level and high school program is located on an expansive site at the edge of Kenyon. Each developmental stage has its own school within a school home area there. The improved and expanded athletic fields, gyms and auditorium are characteristic features that enable us to offer comprehensive academic, co-curricular, and extra-curricular programs in athletics and fine arts. These sites serves almost 900 students and 6000 residents who reside in a beautiful, rural territory that spans 221 square miles. Easy access to State Highways 56 and 52 insure that both the Twin Cities and Rochester are only a short drive away.
K-W is a welcoming place that aims to serve residents and neighbors by collaborating with families to customize the educational experience. This includes the recreation and adult learning and leisure programs offered by the Community Education Program. We are currently in the fifth year of our “Dream like a Knight” facilities improvement plan. This is an exciting time as we transition into new and improved spaces.
On behalf of the Board of Education and myself, we are truly glad that you’re here!
Dr. Jeff Pesta, Superintendent of Schools
