Early Childhood Director's Welcome

Welcome to K-W Early Childhood Programs!

Welcome to the new website for early childhood programs and childcare.  These programs are run as a distinct segment of the Community Education Department.  My role as the Early Childhood Director combines my teaching duties with leadership responsibility for aligning our efforts toward kindergarten readiness for each child.

The image on the left features our official program logo.  The Little Knight represents our early childhood and childcare programs.  This unique instructional level is considered to be of equal value within our system.  The rapid growth and exploration that occurs here sets the foundation for a pathway toward full-fledged Knighthood.

I joined the K-W administrative team on July 1 in the newly created Early Childhood Director position, but I am certainly not new to early childhood education.  I come with 20 years of experience teaching, leading, training and coordinating in various early childhood programs throughout Southeast Minnesota.  I am so excited to be a part of the leadership team that is guiding our district toward its fabulous future!  We have a stellar staff team; however, it is the students, families and supportive community members that make K-W great!

The early childhood years are widely considered the most important time for growth.  Research indicates that 80-90% of brain development happens before the age of five.  I am committed to offering the highest of quality early childhood experiences for our youngest learners, as well as supporting families as a whole as we build lifelong relationships.  As stated in our strategic plan, our first goal is that all children become ready for kindergarten and beyond.  We are proud to offer many Four Star quality early childhood programs.   Our Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) classes, one-time family events and Little Knights preschool sections are offered at both the Kenyon and Wanamingo sites.  Knights Kids, our quality childcare programming for children ages 33 months to 5th grade, is also offered at both sites.  We continue to offer Community Ed classes geared towards our younger learners as well.

On behalf of the Early Childhood team and myself, we are truly glad that you’re here,

Sara Line
