Community Education Welcome and Information
Welcome to K-W Community Ed!
In July of 2015 the K-W Board of Education combined the duties of the Community Education Director with the Office of the Superintendent on a temporary basis. This efficiency enabled us to streamline the process of a complete external review of our community education programs. That process included the appointment of a Community Education Advisory Council (CEAC). The net result was a reorganizational plan that has already yielded significant benefits.
First of all, the community education balance sheet was well in the black for the fiscal year 2016. Maintaining quality programming with a balanced budget was our primary objective. The ensuing organizational changes were made to invest in the future quality of our programming with an understanding of how that ultimately impacts the success of the entire school district. Effective July of 2016 the community education fund now supports two separate areas of concentration. Sara Line was appointed as both a licensed early childhood education teacher and the Director of Pre-kindergarten programs. Sara is responsible for all aspects of preschool and family education along with the school aged care program. Our aim is to create synergy between the regular and extended school day/year programming to support our goal of kindergarten readiness for every child.
Our recreation and adult learning and leisure programs continue to benefit from the experience of Shannon Johnson, who coordinates the logistics for those programs. Shannon is also pioneering a new leadership model in which she collaborates with the secondary school Activities Director to schedule all district facilities. The Board of Education has been busy updating its practices and policies to support this new model. Our CEAC will continue to meet regularly to provide the perspective necessary to develop world-class programming. The following page visualizes how community education fits into the lifelong learning continuum of our strategic plan.
On behalf of the Board of Education and myself, we are truly glad that you’re here.
